When a subject is highly controversial… one cannot hope to tell the truth. One can only show how one came to hold whatever opinion one does hold. One can only give one’s audience the chance of drawing their own conclusions as they observe the limitations, the prejudices, the idiosyncrasies of the speaker.” -Virginia Woolf

Something I know I’ll always be to you, is honest. Sometimes that means I speak about things that you may not like or it may be something a brand or company wouldn’t like. But at the end of all this, I started this blog to express, to inspire and to motivate. I watch all these blogs on the rise and wonder where are they going? My readers, you, are so bright, so brilliant, so heartfelt in your words. My blog is going somewhere much bigger than the confines of WordPress. I love how I engage with you , disagree and agree with you, and inspire you. You may of been following me since I started Profresh Style in 2009 or maybe from the two blogs in 2007 before PS was born but damn, I’m so blessed to have you. I love that I can talk about topics that bother me, things that I’m loving, my style transition, the perils of my breakup, the trials and tribulations of my move to NYC, my stories and my memories. I swear, it’s like you’ve watched me grow up. Not many bloggers can say this about their reader.

I’m so inspired by bloggers who speak openly, who welcome response and engage back. It’s vulnerability I appreciate. There’s something to be said about people who are able to speak open and honestly about their lives. Of course, this isn’t required to be popular or to be taken seriously. There are many bloggers who speak nothing of their lives and there’s something so alluring about that too. But I tend to read about what others are going through- because I’m looking for someone to relate to, someone to understand me, someone to perceive my own reality. It’s comforting. I hope some of you find that in my blog.

This isn’t to say I’m not thankful for everything that’s ever happened to me through the blog. All the amazing brands and companies I’ve worked with, all the people I’ve met, all the opportunities I’ve had- I wouldn’t trade that for the world. In fact, some of those moments will hold a special place in my heart because it represented a “me” that I’ve grown out of touch with. This girl who grew up obsessing over fashion and style, scouring every fashion magazine possible, sketching her own clothing line (never happened), and the girl who got excited about ANY shopping trip. Every garment, every accessory, every bangle was a part of who I was. And those moments with those opportunities bring me back to that girl, who was inspired by this world. And fashion will always be a part of me, just not my entirety.

Profresh Style was born as a way to express- originally my style. But it’s grown into something much more than just style and fashion. And trust me, I’ve tried to spin my NAME into something that’s more fitting for the blog. But it will stay because it’s symbolic of where I started to where I’m at now. Did you know that Profresh Style was born off a hoody I had made when I was teenager? It was during my thug life days, got it painted by an artist in my hometown to represent my “gangsta” ways, ha. It represented a time where I was trying to figure out who I was then- and then it was being a “hometown model”. If you’re from a small town in the San Francisco bay area, you’ll know exactly what I mean. I thought I was fly, pshh. So Profresh is where I started and where I’ll continue. My stories, controversial or not, will remain just like the name.

If you leave, I’ll understand. If you stay, I’ll have someone to read my thoughts and stories, to be inspired by beautiful photos and laugh at my ridiculous videos. This blog has helped me discover who I am, at 25 years old. I’m truly happy about who I am, truly happy with where I’m going.

October is going to be a great month- a month of discover and thought. Celebrating my third year with PS will be celebrated in silence and I’m really excited about it.

Words spoken like a true women who knows herself and wont let mainstream media nor the blogging world change her. Fist pumps and throws glitter. I love that you are open and truthful with us your readers. It has been said over and over people can tell the difference between someone being genuine and someone faking the funk to get where they are. I respect and admire you for being real with us. There are so many blogs I no longer read because the person changed to fit a mold or to make some extra coins. Hey nothing wrong with getting coins but if I can no longer relate I am no longer part of your demographic.

Sorry for being long winded but thanks for being you and follow the yellow brick road to your dreams.

It’s comments like these that help me realize my place in all this. These “long-winded” comments are exactly what keep me blogging. You guys are commenting with “Hey, cute outfit”, or “I like your shirt, check out my blog”. It’s more engaging, we talk like we’re at a coffee date. I love that about this blog. I love that you guys write to me, we talk, we work shit out. Thank you for your words lady. xx
