Once upon a time, I wanted to be a stylist. Then, I realized the reality of such a thing. Say hello to your desk job.

No but really, my fabulously gorgeous roommate and I have been doing trade for trade. I help her by styling her and taking photos for her book and in turn, she takes my blog photos. Perfect right? I wanted to dress Alex darker than how she normally shoots, as it was a perfect test to both her expansion and my creativity expression. And whoa, when did I become so technical?

Alas, it’s just a hobby. A really, really, really fun hobby.

Hey there! I have been following you for some time now and I think you are pretty freaking awesome. But, this post really hit home. I too dream of being a stylist, and or entering the fashion industry by any means necessary. I’m making the move to NYC soon and I want to quit my decent paying job. ASAP. My S.O. has been trying to tell me how hard it will be to change markets and actually make it as a stylist in new york. So to hear that someone like you has had difficulty really scares me. More like, makes me face reality. This comment is getting really long, and I know you are busy, but I would love to hear more about your experiences, good and bad, with the styling world. Thanks a bunch.

Good Luck! I am planning to move to NY as well. I really want to open an online shop based in NY though! DOn’t let any naysayers stop you, it will be hard, but you want it bad enough you’ll getit!

I agree with not letting anyone stop you. People will always try to sway you from doing something they may not understand. I was told I was nuts for getting out of the military after 11 years to go to fashion school…but it’s been 6 months and I am absolutely loving everyday of it. Follow your heart and dreams…life’s too short not to. Good luck :)
